Windsurf, Mountain Bike, Kayak

Peters Cafe AzoresThe annual Peter’s Café Sport triathlon which usually takes place in April has been cancelled this year, but they are planning to run it in 2010 which gives you plenty of time to get training!
Dubbed the ‘most radical triathlon in Portugal’, competitors first windsurf the 12 nautical miles between the islands of São Jorge and Pico, a channel frequented by whales, dolphins and sharks. The next stage involves a 37 mile mountain bike ride across Pico island from the coast up to 1000m on the slopes of Portugal’s highest mountain – the volcanic cone Mt Pico (2351m) – and down to the coast again. Finally, a 5 nautical mile kayak across the channel between Pico and Faial island to the port of Horta bustling with transatlantic yachtsmen.
