Maio

Maio, Often called the ‘forgotten’ island, this is a sleepy place with lonely white sand beaches

Vila do Maio island desciption

Probably the least visited island of the archipelago, Maio is named after the month it was first sighted in back in 1460.  Like Sal and Boavista, it is relatively flat and very arid although the mature (planted) acacia forests create a welcome oasis amidst the blank landscape.  Take a jeep safari around the island and discover its lovely beaches fringed by turquoise seas.
