São Vicente looms out of the ocean like a newly formed island where vegetation has yet to take hold. Its barren landscape is due to its lack of regular rainfall and even with its desalination plants, water is still sometimes shipped in from neighbouring Santo Antão. The islands real gem though is its capital Mindelo, nestled at the foot of two extinct volcanoes and built around a natural deep water harbour, this lovely town is the cultural centre of the archipelago. With its lively café culture and good restaurants, fine colonial architecture as well as its famous music, it holds a special place in the hearts of the locals. If you’re here at the weekend, you might even see a Capoeira performance in the main square.
Cape Verde Institute for Children and Adolescents
Founded in 1982 to address the needs of Cape Verdean children aged 0 to 12 years, this government organisation is now providing essential services including a support centre in Mindelo for child victims of violence, sexual abuse and those that have been abandoned. They also provide an emergency helpline number, a bit like the UK Childline. This is a professionally run centre staffed by highly qualified Cape Verdeans.
There are three planned projects at the centre which donations will help with.
As a company, we contribute annually to this centre, but we also offer the facility to our clients to make a donation (if they feel it is appropriate) when they are on Sao Vicente.
Santo Antao - Kindergarten in a remote village
Fogo - Medical Centre in Cha das Caldeiras
Santiago - Education project for children
Boavista - Turtle project

During your tour you’ll visit the markets (the fish one is fascinating!), the historical buildings, visit a workshop where guitars are made and even hear some traditional music. If you take a full day, you’ll be able to walk out to a romantic fishing village and take a swim at the wonderful Baia das Gatas.

Cape Verde is one of those few remaining locations where sailing is pure fun. The sailing season is year round, with ideal wind conditions as well as clear, warm water and lots of sun. There are no over crowded ports or beaches and the distances between the islands - 15 all together (9 of which are inhabited) - is a maximum of 135 nautical miles. Choose from one day to two week charters either with or without crew aboard our new Bavaria (46 & 49) yachts sleeping 8-10.

Discover this island of dramatic volcanic scenery by 4X4 jeep. You can either take a full or half day trip and visit not only the villages and towns on the island but also the unexplored southeast side where you can watch ospreys, climb volcanoes and swim in the clear turquoise sea.
