Climb the ultimate peak in Cape Verde, the enormous volcano Pico de Fogo (2829m), and stay inside the crater it emerges from for 2 nights. The stars at night are wonderful here and the 2 walks up and round the peaks in the crater are truly memorable. You then head to the coast for a stay in the pretty town of Sao Filipe and a relax at a comfortable hotel with swimming pool and a gentle walk from the mountains down to the coast through strawberry and pineapple plantations! A visit to Fogo is a must for all keen walkers.

Accommodation in twin share, en-suite rooms on a breakfast only basis throughout (dinner is included at Pedra Brabo which has shared bathrooms), return airport transfers on Sal and Fogo, 1 x return inter-island flight per person, 4 x guided walks with transfers and lunch, visas, island representation and air ticket reconfirmation. PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE LIMITED NUMBER OF GUIDES ON THE ISLANDS THERE MAY BE OTHER PEOPLE WALKING WITH YOU.

International flights (we will look for the best flight for your chosen date of departure). Meals not specified above and insurance. Additional excursions on free days.

There are lots of different international flight options to Cape Verde, so whenever we give you a flight quotation, we will quote you the cheapest and most appropriate available price.

Day 1 Arrive Sal. Transfer to Hotel Morabeza.

You will be met in Sal airport and transferred to your hotel in Santa Maria (20 minutes).

Day 2 Fly to Fogo via Santiago. Guided crater walk (2 hours : Grade Easy)

Today you will be transferred to the airport (20 minutes) for your flight to Fogo stopping at Santiago on the way. On arrival in Fogo you will be dropped off in the crater beneath the 1995 peak where your walking guide will be waiting and your luggage will continue on to your accommodation. This walk is relatively easy and spectacular as you ascend the peak and then drop down the other side to the village where your accommodation is.

Day 3 Guided Ascent of Pico do Fogo (2829m) (6-7hours : Grade Difficult)

This morning you will be met at around 7am by your guide to start your ascent of the highest mountain in Cape Verde. This is a constant and steep climb of 1200m which takes around 4 hours through ash and shingle on the lower slopes to rocks and boulders higher up. Once on the top you are rewarded with magnificent views from what must be one of the most spectacular volcanice cones in the world. Going down, you can either run down the ash screes or take the path back.

Day 4 Guided walk to down to the coast (4-5 hours : Grade Medium). Transfer to Sao Filipe.

An early start again for this lovely walk from the crater down to near Mosteiros on the coast. The first part is fantastic as you walk through the lava fields and then into the forests of the Monte Velha National Park. Once out of the forest, the scenery changes and you descend through coffee plantations and fruit orchards towards the end of your walk. You are collected from the walk finish and transferred to your accommodation in Sao Filipe.

Day 5 Free day.

Free day to explore the pretty colonial town of Sao Filipe and enjoy the hotel's swimming pool.

Day 6 Guided Sao Lourenco walk (90 minutes : Grade Easy)

Starting at 410m in the village of Sao Lourenco, you descend gently for 1hr 30 mins along a disused road with wonderful views over the sea and on a clear day, over to Brava. Towards the end of the walk, you arrive at a fertile oasis with plantations where even pineapple and strawberries are grown - a real rarity in Cape Verde. You are collected here and driven back to your accommodation.

Day 7 Fly to Sal.

Today you will be transferred to the airport (10 minutes) for your flight to Sal. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation in Santa Maria (20 minutes).

Day 8 Transfer to airport. Depart Sal.

Today you will be transferred to the airport (20 minutes) for your return/onward flight.
