Getting around the islands

by airBy Air

The local airline, TACV, operates regular internal flights between all islands except Santo Antão and Brava which are accessed by local ferry. If you are keen to island hop, then a TACV Air Pass offers excellent value and allows you to book up to 10 inter island flights.  This Pass is only sold in conjunction with a TACV international flight.  Please note that inter island flight times are subject to constant change, and although a member of our staff in Cape Verde will advise you and make any necessary amendments to your itinerary, you may need a flexible attitude!

Brava and Santo Antão are served by a local shipping company which runs several boats between the islands at irregular intervals.  Boats also run between Mindelo (São Vicente) and Santo Antão once or twice a day and Brava can be reached by ferry from Fogo, but please note there is no set timetable.  Other ferry routes are shown on the map to the right although for many of these other routes, you will probably choose to fly.  Bear in mind that, although seaworthy, ferries can be a bit basic especially in the toilet department!

Once on the islands, the usual way to get around is by ‘Aluguer’, small minivans or pick-ups that serve as shared taxis.  Fares are relatively cheap unless you are hiring it privately.
